Queued Up is back with another XL edition. This episode features San Francisco Bay Area rapper and producer, P-Lo. On a recent trip to San Diego, P-Lo stopped by the BPM Supreme offices to give our Production Team a listen to songs from his new album and tell us more about the inspiration he had throughout his career. 

Growing up as a Filipino-American, music was always the centerpiece of P-Lo’s household. He remembers going through his father’s vinyl music collection and listening to artists and bands like Carlos Santana, The Beatles, and Eric Clapton. But it’s his older brother who P-Lo said pushed him to take his love of music to the next level.

“My older brother is probably the reason for everything. He got me into producing, just rapping, and making music period,” said P-Lo.

A career-defining moment for P-Lo was the release of his track, “Put Me on Somethin'” with E-40. As a co-founder of the Heart Break Gang (HBK Gang), a Bay Area collective of artists and producers, P-Lo has had a hand in creating the influential sound coming out of the West Coast rap scene. The HBK Gang now has a total of 10 members, including Sage the Gemini, Kehlani, Skipper, Kool John, and Jay Ant to name a few.

The rapper is just finishing The Endless Summer Tour with headliners G-Eazy and Lil Uzi Vert’s, along with Ty Dolla $ign, YBN Nahmir, and Murda Beatz. Staying humble and appreciative, P-Lo said that he’s known the two headliners for years and learned a lot from both of them while on tour. 

P-Lo’s newest album, Prime, is what he calls his strongest work to date. Besides making his own music, P-Lo has produced for other artists, including Wiz Khalifa, Yo Gotti, and his fellow HBK Gang co-founder, IAMSU.
