Native Instruments’ heralded DJ software Traktor was just updated and released to critical acclaim. Traktor Pro 4 is turning heads in the DJ community beyond fellow Traktorists, and for good reason.
Below, we’ll detail the most notable upgrades included in Traktor Pro 4 (including stem separation!) so that you can evaluate whether it’s the right software for your DJing needs.
The last version of Traktor, Pro 3, was released in October 2018, so Traktor-based DJs are definitely due for an upgrade. Fortunately, Pro 4 has delivered with these notable updates:
Powered by iZotope’s AI-back RX technology, Traktor Pro 4 has built-in stem separation, letting you isolate the likes of drums, bass, instruments, and vocals. Notably, this can be done while another track plays, letting you split tracks into stems on the fly. After initial processing, you can apply filters and other adjustments to create the perfect separation.
Traktor Pro 4 integrates one of Native Instruments’ most revered products: The AI-powered mastering engine, Ozone by iZotope. You can use Ozone’s Maximizer within Traktor, balancing your audio across genres. Maximizer hosts an Intelligent Release Control which allows you to boost loudness without having to worry about distortion or clipping through your monitors.
A huge improvement with Traktor Pro 4 comes with flexible Beatgrids, allowing you to set several “tempo zones” per track. This feature essentially allows you to set loops and transitions with more precise grooves and is also now independent of cues for easier triggering.
Pro 4 includes the Pattern Player for all users, giving DJs access to classic sounds like an 808 or 909 kit to sequence and include in your mix. The new update also comes with over 40 effect options and four assignable effect processors to create innovative transitions from one song to the next.
Traktor Pro 4 makes it possible to DJ on the fly with just a laptop, or with minimal equipment like Native Instruments’ Traktor Control Z1, F1, or X1. These controllers can easily slide into your backpack making them ideal for house parties or any casual setting where you want to practice your mixing without having to bring a full deck along with you. The Pro 4 updates include helpful additions like setting precise cues and auto-beatmatching (called Traktor’s Sync mode) to create smoother transitions when you don’t have access to your full rig.
DJs with Traktor Pro 3 can upgrade to the new suite for $74.50 USD. New users can purchase Traktor Pro 4 for $149.00 USD. Don’t forget to put your new software to good use with BPM Music’s extensive music and sample libraries.
