“Backspin” is BPM Supreme’s original series featuring some of our favorite DJs and artists sharing memorable experiences and behind-the-scenes stories. On this episode, DJ V.I.P. tells us about working with the late, great Nipsey Hussle, as well as what it’s like to clear your schedule on the drop of a dime to go out on tour.
DJ V.I.P., born Anthony Orozco, grew up in the Bay Area and moved to Los Angeles to attend Cal State University Northridge. It wasn’t long before he scored an internship at LA’s Power 106 and began contributing to the hip hop community by “leaking” unreleased music that artists would share with him. He’s well-known in the Southern California club scene and names DJs like J. Espinosa, Q-Bert, & DJ Craze as key influences on his DJ style.
Check out the video above to hear more about how V.I.P. met Nipsey and what touring with the talented rapper was like. Is there an artist or DJ you’d like to hear a behind-the-scenes story from on a future episode? Let us know in the comments below.
