Meet one of the writers behind BPM Music’s blog, Kate Brunotts, who produces, DJs, and releases music under the same name. Based in Brooklyn, Kate frequently plays shows across NYC and has received notable praise from some of her favorite artists like Grimes.
“I tend to love anything that pushes the envelope of pop music – accessible but innovative, whether that’s dance music, rock, funk, etc. doesn’t matter as much. I’m definitely having a (Charli XCX) Brat summer, but I also frequent artists like Caroline Polachek, Remi Wolf, Mitski, Dora Jar, Lana Del Rey, and Olivia Rodrigo.”
“I’m having a very groovy summer with my BPM Music playlist, which you can listen to and download on BPM. It’s eclectic, upbeat, and definitely packed with emotion.”

“My favorite spots to relax are probably Alice’s Tea Cup, Prince Tea House, Little Cupcake Bakeshop – really anywhere in the city where I can sit down for a sweet treat and cup of tea. Bonus points if the location is within walking distance of a city park.
“When I’m not making or writing about music, I’m either hanging out with my dog Spicy, making video essays, or working on set. I’m a photographer and videographer as well and enjoy having variety in my day-to-day schedule.”
“This is probably not the most exciting answer, but I’ve realized a lot of gaps in my knowledge around file management lately, which is especially important if you’re producing with clients or collaborators. That being said, these Samsung external drives are super portable, fast, and hold 2TB at a time, which makes moving from music production to video to visuals (all CPU-intensive tasks) a breeze!
“My dream piece of gear that I’ve used but don’t own myself is Teenage Engineering’s OP-1 portable synthesizer.”
