Is the sky falling? Is the Rane Twelve doomed? The answer is no. Rane Twelve owners – don’t panic. You can still use your Rane Twelve confidently at gigs. There has been an update to the motor firmware, but it is a very minor bug. In fact, most users will likely never experience the issue. Rane is recommending a free service update to all units, as they want to ensure you have the best experience possible with your unit. Keep reading for more.  

From Rane:

“We have identified a bug which can cause the Rane TWELVE platter to change direction and speed when a DJ applies a quick pull-back, while simultaneously tapping the Start/Stop button.

Although most users will never experience it, this behavior is evident in rare cases and can be corrected by pressing ‘Stop’ twice. 

We are however recommending this complimentary motor firmware update which requires a return of the unit to an authorized Rane Service Center.

While most updates to the TWELVE will be user-installable in the field via USB, this motor firmware update must be installed directly to the motor itself using special equipment at our factory authorized service center.”

How to send in for service

The update requires a special programming tool, which is why the gear needs to be sent to the manufacturer for a quick fix. Rane will cover all the service and shipping costs.

Start by going to this link and fill out the form with your name and contact information. A Rane representative will get back to you and provide a pre-paid return shipping label, an RMA to track your request, and return instructions.

The fix can be made the same day it arrives to Rane’s support center, so you’ll have the unit back in your hands in no time.

Note: Ship the Twelve base unit ONLY using the provided pre-paid shipping label and RMA in the original box and packaging if you have it. Do not include the platter, slipmat, vinyl, power cable, USB cable, documentation or any accessories. Keep those at home in a safe place!
