DJ Wallzee Named Winner of Rob Swift’s First Annual DJ Battle
Share

“Rob, what are the chances you’d throw a battle for your students, man? I just wanna keep battling!”

That’s the question that Chris Wallzee, a.k.a. DJ Wallzee, asked of DJ Rob Swift, an original member of the legendary turntablist crew, The X-ecutioners, about two years ago. Fast forward to November 21, 2017 and DJ Wallzee has been named the winner of the very battle he envisioned.

As one of DJ Wallzee’s greatest mentors, as well as an instructor at The New School in New York City, DJ Rob Swift thought a battle would be a great way to get the students engaged, test their skills and build their confidence in performing.

With a little help and planning, Swift put together an exclusive routine and DJ battle, called CIVIL WAR: Brolic Army Battle for Supremacy. The battle is exclusively for Swift’s students and aims to further cultivate the DJ skills they’ve acquired under his mentorship.

As the winner of the first Brolic Army Battle for Supremacy, DJ Wallzee took a Pro fader from Innofader, Brolic Army custom Serato DJ records courtesy of 12inchSkinz, a one-year membership to the BPM Supreme record pool, and two free lessons with Swift at The New School.

Judges, Johnny Juice, Ginsu D and DJ Slyce based their votes on both technical skills and consistency, as well as how they performed in “battle mode” reading their opponent.

“Wallzee’s set was cleaner overall and hit all of his marks. BUT Junior’s like a chess player, he read his opponent well… (he) was playing the game well, match for match, diss for diss, but Wallzee was just that bit more technical,” Ginsu D said.

Swift intends to make the battle an annual event and we’re excited to see the talent that comes out on top each year. Check out the final battle between DJ WallZee and DJ Junior:
