5 Ways to Improve Your Wedding DJ Profile
Share

Wedding DJs: What should you put on your profile for Wedding Wire, The Knot, or other websites like Gig Masters and Thumbtack? Any DJ who has ever stared at that blank screen knows the struggle is real! I have been blessed with above average traffic on The Knot for years (yes, you can see how you stack up against the competition in their “stats” tab). Here are my secrets.

Stay Away from Clichés

First things first, you’ll need to do your research and check out what other DJs have on their profiles. This is not so you can mimic what the competition is doing, but actually quite the opposite. Make a list of cliché phrases and over-fluffed statements so that you can stay away from them!

Some examples of these are phrases like “raised the bar,” “long-lasting memories,” “passionate about music,” and so on. You want your profile to stand out, so get creative and stay away from the same promises that everyone is making.

Use Action Shot Photos

If you want to portray yourself as a fun, high-energy DJ who is passionate about music, why not show it instead? Use professional photos of yourself in action. While posed headshots certainly have their place, if you want to grab a bride or groom’s attention, you have a better chance with a more authentic image.

I recommend hiring a professional photographer to come along to one of your events. For about $150 or so, you’ll have someone dedicated to just capturing you. So many DJs only post photos of couples or a generic, crowded dance floor, but remember, the bride and groom are hiring YOU!

Promote Your Niche DJ Qualities

Your profile is where you have a chance to brag about the special talents you have or unique qualities you can bring to the event. Do you speak another language? Do you also work in the hospitality industry? Do you have an extensive country music selection or Latin music catalog? All of these things will help quickly distinguish you as a specialty or niche DJ.

Have you ever performed at a celebrity wedding or for a well-known brand? Have you spun at a nightclub or a festival? Been hired for a destination wedding abroad? These are juicy details that your prospective clients want to know. So let the other DJs brag about winning “Best of The Knot” last year – snooze! You can do better than that.

Include a Wedding Mix Sample

Set yourself apart from other wedding DJs by putting together a sample wedding mix, or better yet a video of your wedding DJ set. By posting this to your profile, you’ll not only highlight your professionalism, experience, and organization but also your mixing and music selection skills.

Do keep in mind, not all wedding websites are set up to display audio files. So if you don’t have a video and want to use a mix instead, simply include a link to the sample or mix! In my profile on The Knot, I have a link to a Mixcloud set I put together specifically for weddings called “Wedding Dance Floor Opener.”

Update Your Profile Regularly

Last but certainly not least, it’s important to update your profile regularly. Too many DJs put up their profiles and never visit them again. Don’t be that guy or gal! Websites like The Knot and Wedding Wire frequently add new features that you may not want to miss. Plus, it’s not a bad idea to periodically check on your stats such as visitors and conversions. If your profile traffic is down, you’ll know it’s time to try out a new profile pic or update the text information.

I hope these tips help you create a wedding DJ profile that attracts business! Let us know if you have any other tips in the comments below.
