Kenny “Flip Flop” Vanderberg gives us this week’s episode of On Deck. You may remember this DJ/producer/mixing engineer/turntablist extraordinaire from Episode 2 of BPM Supreme’s Chop Shop. He’s back and bringing scratch skills stronger than ever.
Originally from Portland, but now living in Los Angeles, FlipFlop has some impressive awards under his belt. He was the 2013 Los Angeles DMC Regional Champion, the 2012 Thud Rumble Dirtstyle Masters Champion and the 2012 A3C (All 3 Coasts) Needle 2 The Record Champion. In 2016, he came in 2nd place for both the DMC Supremacy Finals in LA and the Skratcher LA Battle. Not bad!
FlipFlop started his DJ career in 2000 and became deeply immersed in hip hop and turntablist culture. He became the official tour DJ for the hip-hop trio, CunninLynguists in 2008 and has been traveling the U.S. and Europe with the group ever since. You can find FlipFlop frequently showcasing his turntable skills in DJ battles and competitions around LA and playing clubs all over California and Oregon.
