The very first Matrix Sessions x BPM Supreme Workshop went down on December 6 at the BPM Supreme offices in downtown San Diego. Over 50 DJs, producers and sound engineers from all over Southern California attended to learn tips and tricks from the talented producer, instructor and mentor, Brian Matrix.
As founder of Matrix Sessions LA, Brian is currently working with Steve Aoki and has worked with an impressive list of big name DJs like Mark Knight, Jauz, Vice, Tommy Trash, SNBRN… the list goes on. During the workshop, Brian showed attendees demos and shortcuts within the soon-to-be-released Ableton Live 10 and live-remixed “Olympian” by A$AP Ferg featuring Dave East.
At their two locations, one in downtown LA and one in Orange County, Matrix Sessions has one goal for their students – to make them the absolute best. So how do you become the best? In today’s world of production, standing out is key.
“The subtlest things make the most impact and can make a track exciting,” Brian said. “It’s important to read, even just a little bit – pick up the manual! Trust me, if you give yourself four hours a week just to geek out, you’ll be surprised at the shit you come up with.”
With his enthusiastic approach, Brian created a full intro and build-up for the “Olympian” remix. It was impressive to watch him work at such a quick pace, and he explained that this is how many of the big DJs he works with do it too. In an hour or two, on a plane or a train – the goal is to make the workflow easier so the creative juices can keep flowing.
“You gotta be pumped about your stuff because if you’re not who will be? Confidence is huge,” Brian said.
Matrix Sessions LA offers courses on DJing, music production, music marketing & business, sound design and a Toolroom Academy course with feedback from Toolroom artists like Mark Knight, D. Ramirex and Funkagenda. Their unique curriculum is catered around each individual’s skill level.
“Learn to work smarter, not harder” – Brian Matrix
With plans to open more locations in San Diego, Las Vegas and Miami, Brian and his team are looking forward to sharing their workflow methods with new students across the country.
“It all starts here. We’re excited to host workshops with BPM Supreme and take people from being bedroom DJs, to DJs who are playing at amazing events,” Brian concluded.
There will be more collaborations between BPM Supreme and Matrix Sessions in 2018. Check out all of our upcoming events here or follow BPM Supreme’s Facebook page to stay updated.
