Production tips for the 808 Day sample pack.

For Beginners:

Creating a unique kick & bass groove.

Kicks and 808s don’t always have to hit at the same time. Create a more dynamic and unique low-end house bounce by placing 808s (green MIDI) in spots where the kick (red MIDI) is absent and vice versa. Doing this will yield a more intricate and unique low-end groove to your tracks, especially if the 808 sample has its own kick.

Next level: Intermediate

Creating a unique kick & bass groove part 2.

The same principles apply as the previous tip but with a hip hop and trap style production.

For Advanced

Reversing 808s.

Reversing an 808 sample into the next 808 hit is a production technique that yields satisfying and epic results (ex: “The Box” by Roddy Ricch). To do this, set your sampler of choice to “Ping Pong” loop mode as indicated by the two arrows facing away from each other, and then adjust the playhead accordingly until you hear the 808 sample reverse into itself during the longest hits.

If you are working with audio, simply reverse the same 808 sample into the next hit on your DAW timeline. Play with the sample fade-in for the reverse hit to fine-tune your results.
