The Importance of Asking for Online Reviews
Share

Reviews are the backbone of buying these days. Think about it for a minute: if you are about to make a purchase online, don’t you often look at the reviews of the product on Amazon or whatever retailer you are buying from before checking out? What if you are thinking about trying a new restaurant in your city, aren’t you going to look at the Yelp reviews before dropping $100?

These same things apply to the mobile DJ business, or really any service business. Reviews are the lifeblood of Bunn DJ Company. We have hundreds of folks each year book with us because of our amazing online reviews, and therefore, we spend a lot of time and effort trying to collect them. At present, we have over 1,000 Wedding Wire reviews, with hundreds more on The Knot, Google, Facebook and so forth. Let’s talk about how we got them.

First, make sure that you are following up with clients post-event. We do a ton of events, so the email that goes out post-event is automated from the booking system that we use called DJ Event Planner. Of course, if you are running a smaller operation, you can just manually send these out. We do mostly weddings here so we send the first email out ten days after the event which allows the clients enough time to get back from their honeymoon. The email reads something like this:

“I truly hope that you enjoyed your reception. It was awesome and I had a blast DJing for you! The website TheKnot.com is very popular with couples who are searching for their DJ because they can get real reviews from past brides and grooms who have used our company. The number and quality of reviews that we receive often makes the difference between a bride booking us or not. With that said, could I impose on you leave me a 5-star review there? It’ll take less than 5 minutes and would be a big help to not only to me but to Bunn DJ Company…plus I’ll get bragging rights at the next company meeting LOL.

If you’re willing, just click this link and write a review! If you want to copy and paste that review to Google, we will be even more excited!”

As you can see, we make the email come from the DJ that handled the event. You can make the links go to whatever site you are trying to collect the most reviews on. We change that around from time to time. We also have follow-up emails going out a week later, and then one more a week after that. We want the reviews!

Another idea that we do is send out an old-school letter thanking them for having us and then giving them the direct link to the Bunn DJ Company reviews page. Many times this will get people motivated that have ignored the previous emails.

Regardless of which method you choose, remember how people shop these days before totally ignoring the post-event follow up. Get those reviews, get them online, get more business. Good luck!
