New Sound Pack: Produce Playboi Carti and Rage-Inspired Beats
Share

Our latest sound pack “Wave Hop” delivers the ultimate toolkit for crafting Playboi Carti and rage-inspired beats. Dive into a cutting-edge collection of distorted 808s, hypnotic synth loops, hard-hitting drum patterns, and atmospheric textures that capture the raw energy of the rage genre.

Below are three production tips to help you nail the sound of this bold new genre.

Sound Pack Spotlight: Production Tips and Tricks

For Beginners:

Wet send FX.

Rage beats often feature atmospheric and ethereal melodies that create a layer of depth and contrast within the beat. We can use a send/return track to apply reverb and delay to elements of the track while staying organized and keeping a clean mix.

Create a send and return track within your DAW, and load it up with a reverb and delay with mix knobs set to 100%. Because the mix knobs are at 100%, this track will only output the wet effect signal, and the dry signal output will remain on the original track. This gives us ultimate flexibility and control of the reverb and delay sound.

Next, add an EQ and carve out the mids while cutting the highs and lows to prevent masking. Beyond this, we can also apply a sidechain effect to these send/return tracks to make sure our dry signals and drums remain on the forefront of the mix while retaining that spacey feel in the background.

Halftime hats.

Create a complex and multi-layered hat groove with the use of ShaperBox 3’s “HalfTime” feature. Open up Shaperbox 3 and select the “HalfTime” button within the “Time” module. This will introduce a low-pitched, half-timed hat pattern that plays in conjunction with your normal hat pattern. Set the mix to under 40% to retain the original hat pattern.

For Advanced

Hypnotic and glitchy leads.

We can also use ShaperBox 3 on lead melodies to create hypnotic and chaotic, but controlled synth melodies. Many ShaperBox3 presets are based on beat repeats, stutters, noises, and distortions that mangle and glitch out the sound, creating new textures and patterns on top of existing sounds.

When used on sounds such as synth leads and vocal chops, we can achieve a vibe that is prominent within rage, hyperpop, and modern trap beats. Try out the “Pitch Rhythmizer” or “Filtered Jumper” presets on your synth melodies or vocals for maximum flair and chaos.
