Get Inspired With Dubstep Presets for the Vital Synthesizer
Share

Dubstep sound design is a notably challenging aspect of electronic music production. Advanced techniques and processes involving modulation and sound manipulation are required to achieve usable results.

Have no fear – this new preset pack demystifies this process with ten high-quality, fully customizable dubstep presets for the powerful Vital synthesizer.

New Pack Spotlight: Production Tips and Tricks

For Beginners:

Special macro knobs.

In this preset pack, we included fully mapped macros that give you the ability to customize the tone and timbre of each preset to your liking. These macro knobs are on the very left row of the synth (below the Vital logo). Have fun and discover an unlimited palette of crazy dubstep bass sounds by simply tweaking these knobs!

Utilizing “reverb throws.”

In professional dubstep production, drop sections are usually initialized with an explosive, impactful synth that is played on the downbeat, followed by the main synth which then plays a catchy pattern. In this example, we have the downbeat synth (red MIDI) playing only on the downbeat of every 2 bars. However, the 4th bar is usually the point at which the main synth (green MIDI) resets and plays the main pattern over again. To make the downbeat synth more prominent, we will utilize a reverb throw. Reverb throws are typically used at the end of MIDI phrases or with a short synth hit.

A reverb throw can be created by applying a reverb FX on the synth track and automating an exponential curve that starts with 0% and eventually cuts off to 0% by the end of the synth hit, as shown in the screenshot.

For Advanced

Creating a catchy dubstep drop synth pattern.

Creating an ear-catching synth pattern with MIDI can be simplified by using a mapped LFO macro within the synth that controls the speed of a synth’s MIDI trigger. Automating the LFO macro into different values per beat can give your track catchy synth patterns. Try experimenting with automation in a quick manner by using your DAW’s pen tool to draw stepped values representing different LFO rates. In these Vital presets, we have included LFO macros that have been fully mapped and are ready to automate within your DAW.

Experiment with Chillstep 👌

Vital is a powerful synthesizer that lets you manipulate waveforms in innovative ways. With its spectral oscillator warping, you can transform simple wavetables into complex and unique timbres. You can also create wavetables from scratch using the built-in editor or by converting your samples.

Vital’s visual interface provides real-time feedback on your sound design choices, making it easy to experiment and create. And with its GPU-optimized animations and fast modulation workflow, you can focus on the music without sacrificing performance. Plus, Vital is completely free to use!
